May 2013: Mother's Day and senior festivies

There is this great rock not far from our house.  Creed likes to take the kids hiking there every once in awhile.  This is Luke sitting at the top. You can't beat the view!
I am spoiled.  I get treated very well on Mother's day.  So well in fact, that Grant even wrote 'Mom' in strawberry jam on the strawberry cheesecake he made for me!
Biggest Mother's Day card ever!
I love my kids.  Clearly, this was just too much of a moment for Nash.
Every year the seniors spend all night at the school so they can pull senior pranks.  Nash had this great idea to make a spiral on the lawn with desks and tables.  Pretty nice!
We had an open house for Nash's graduation.  One Smart Cookie.

 Surrounded by friends.
We have such great friends here.  It meant a lot to Nash that people came to the open house.

Mallory playing in the 2nd grade spring music concert.
At the music concert every spring, they ask a parent to join with the students for a little line dancing.  Creed gets very into it. You didn't know he had such  moves did you?

Mallory would often be heard after school asking Nash to go out and play badminton with her. He always took time for her...
 and for improving his form.

In all of the districts around Budapest there is a 'big' trash day.  On this day, you can put anything you want out for the trash.  It's quite and interesting thing.  During this week, you will see gypsies hanging around all over the neighborhoods.  They stake out what they want and then will often sit on it for days until one of their friends hires a truck and comes and picks all the stuff up.  We will see these trucks completely piled high with all sorts of stuff.  It's quite an amazing thing.  No sooner had Creed and Nash carried out a mattress, box springs and several other things we were trying to get rid of, than a van pulled up and just loaded it all up.  Creed whispered, 'Heidi, go take a picture!'

You know those iconic before prom pictures that everyone has.  Like the boy putting the corsage on the girls wrist.  The cute ones with the couples together.   Well, this is Nash's prom picture with his fake date.  Apparently, it's pretty common for everyone to go stag here in Europe (since prom is an American thing anyway.  Students at the school come from all over the world).
We sat down the night before graduation and gave Nash a few gifts.
Like this candy bar poster.  Now most of you just run to the store and buy great candy bars for a poster like this, but when you live overseas...it takes careful planning months ahead of time.  I decided I would do this poster for Nash in February and buy the candy bars in the states when I went in March.  Nash really appreciated all the 'imported' American candy.
There is a senior dinner for families and seniors where awards are given out.  It was a nice night to be there with Nash.
Can't they just smile normally?  Is that too much to ask?

Nash received the President's Education Award.  Second row, right.
'Just take the picture' is what Creed is saying to Grant.

All I wanted was one nice picture with my boys.
 Just one...
whew!  I think we got it...wait, what is Nash doing?
 The big day.
The long awaited graduation.  Nash had worked very hard for the IB diploma.  For two years he just studied, studied, wrote papers, studied.
Not your typical high school graduation class.  I graduated with over 700 people.  Nash, just barely 50.
 Middle row, left.

We are proud of you Nash!
 WHEW HOOO!!!!
Congratulations!
