April 2009 - Trier / Luxembourg

We finally had a Saturday where nobody had anything going on, so we decided to go to Luxembourg. On the way, we decided to stop in Trier, which has some Roman ruins dating back about 2,000 years, the most famous of which is the Porta Nigra (the black gate).

Heidi and I have found that while traveling / touring with children, one of the keys to keeping everyone happy, is keeping them fed. Heidi took the kids into a bakery - Mallory and Luke each chose just a plain bread roll. No pastries or fancy desserts for these two, just a simple bread roll.
We then headed to Luxembourg city, and spent an hour or so wandering around the downtown area.

We then went north and drove through the countryside and ended up in the small village of Esch-sur-Sure, which has some castle ruins at the top of the hill.
On the way up Heidi spotted Bigfoot footprints.

Grant and Luke, waiting at the top of the tower, to surprise their mother coming up the stairs.
