2009 August / September: School, Stitches, Nash's Birthday, etc.

Traditional first day of school shot.

In the second week of school, Mallory fell and hit her head on the leg of a table in her classroom. Apparently it didn't look too bad at first, but after bleeding for multiple hours, Heidi decided to take Mallory in to the hospital, and she ended up with 3 stitches.

The cut was right on her hairline, so they had to shave a small area of her hair in order to get the stitches in.

On 11 September, Nash turned 14. His friend, Cody, brought over a gift, including these cookies baked by Coreen, Cody's mom.

Later that night, Nash opened the rest of the gifts from the family, and Nash was in fine form...

demonstrating a wide range of emotions for the camera.

Nash and Grant are both playing American football in school PE class this year, and the took Nash's new football out for a trial run that night.

Then we had cake -- Nash's favorite, carrot cake.

It looks like Grant had just taken a bite of this sugar beet, from the fields behind our house.

In the last month or so, they plowed under the strawberry plants from the fields directly behind our house.
Luckily, they planted more strawberry plants, just a little further up the hill.
Rape seed oil plants, behind the sugar beets and strawberries.

Grant, inside the deer hunter's shack, at the top of the hill, and next to the forest.
Anybody seen the movie, The Village? This shack reminds us of the look-out towers from that movie.
Grant, Mallory, and the wildflowers.

"Grant war hier." (Grant was here). In case you didn't know, dirt clods work just as well as sidewalk chalk.
