June 2010 - Prague

After school got out, we took a 3-day trip to Prague. Our first stop was the Strahov Monastery on castle hill. The library at this monastery is beautiful, but....

...we were much more impressed with the dried animals and birds in the hallway just outside the rooms with all the books.

The birds or fish or whatever they are had quite the facial expressions.

On the walk from the monastery to the castle, I believe.

Luke, standing just outside the entrance to the castle grounds, waiting for the changing of the guards.

On a tour of the castle, Nash is making that face again.

Grant is reading the description of the window in this room, which is famous for the fact that more than one person is said to have been thrown out of the window.

Having survived the castle, on the way back down the hill.

Grant at the Castle Hill side of the Charles Bridge.

Luke and the Charles Bridge over the Vltava river.

An top of the Petrin hill, the boys and I went to the top of this Eiffel tower-esque tower.

At the mirror maze tourist attraction (trap) on Petrin hill.

A stop at Cafe Kafka for lunch, where Kafka is said to have frequented.

Our next stop was the Jewish quarter, including a visit to this cemetery.

The Jewish ceremonial hall.
The Old New Synagogue -- the synagogue with the golem in the attic.

We met our friends from Bonn at a Mexican restaurant for dinner.

Heidi and Kelsey in twinner shirts.

Luke, Grant, and Austin.

Please just ignore that guy on the left side of the picture.

Grant, reaching up to touch the lucky plaque on the Charles Bridge, at the spot where a priest (John of Nepomuk) was thrown from the bridge into the river.

The next day, at the base of the statue of (good) King Wenceslas, on Wencesalas square.

The boys, playing a game of "Ninja" while the girls shopped.

Luke, from the top of the astronomical clock tower.

The view of the Tyn Church from the top of the clock tower.

The kids by the astronomical clock.

On our last day we rented paddle boats for an hour or so, enjoying the sun on the Vltava river.
